Terms Related to Testing (Evaluations)

Raw Score = the number of items correct within the time allowed

Grade Equivalent (GE) = the grade placement at which a raw score is average Example: 2.6 means that half the students in sixth month of second grade did better and half did worse

Percentile Rank (PR or %) = percentage of sme age students in the norm group who had a lower score. PR of 35 means the score was higher that 35 out of 100 in the average range

Standard Score (SS) = how far below or above the score is from the average of a norm group (same age); Average is 90-110; SS can compare different tests

  • Create a homework kit -decorate a box filled with necessary supplies (paper, ruler, scissors, glue, dictionary ...)
  • Create a homework zone - comfortable, well-lit place; decorative with incentive chart
  • Be a role model with "adult homework"
  • Help with organization - organize backpack, place near door
  • Watch for frustration - check in with student
  • Remember it is the child's homework - encourage but do not provide answers
  • Celebrate homework -free days!
