NEW THIS YEAR:

I will be teaching not only Spanish this year, but also will be teaching your 6th,7th and 8th graders Health. Health will meet on a rotating schedule on Wednesday's. Each student will receive a calendar with the schedule for Health class. It is also posted outside my Spanish room door and upstairs in the Middle School information board.

 

MRS. MCCLELLAN'S SCHOOL HOURS:

This year my ending time varies from day to day,therefore, I highly recommend that your student check with me prior to coming in to see me for extra help. I am available early mornings and during lunch hours. Any questions or problems with homework?!?!? Please have your student email me with any questions. All homework will be listed in the section addressed as HOMEWORK. Please get in the habit of checking your homework section on a daily basis. Reminder!! look under your section....remember the entire school is listed in this section! Any Health homework will also be found in the Homework section. IT WILL APPEAR IN PURPLE. SPANISH HOMEWORK WILL APPEAR IN BLUE. WEBGRADER: Webgrader will be updated on the 15th and 30th of each month. 6th grade: QUIZ this Wednesday, May 19th. Only on the progressive irregular verbs. Go to MY TAREAS.com All the verbs are listed on that website, plus it will help you remember them. If you lost your code 7256775 is the correct code.  Remember these irregular verbs end in -YENDO......NOT.......IENDO.

8th grade: Do not forget your final Spanish project is due: Wednesday, May 26th!! Please do not forget to do this and please make sure that you do a nice job. This does count like a project grade!!! Just a reminder it must be in ESPANOL and you must bring in a sample of your recipe.

4th Grade: Pre-quiz this Thursday, May 20th on all your "ESTRELLA WORDS" Please visit MYTAREAS.com to play the game to help you learn these "ESTRELLA WORDS" The actual quiz will be on Thursday,May 27th. 7th grade: Please make sure that you go on to WEBGRADER if you have not turned in your review sheet. It is very important that you do, since this sheet counts as a grade!! Also, you will have a QUIZ on Wednesday, May 12th (NO Health.......new health day will be May 19th)

6h grade: Please make sure that you are reviewing your notes and that you are preparing for your upcoming quiz on May 19th. Please use the website www.MyTareas.com to help you with the irregular progressive verbs. You need to know these for the upcoming quiz!!!!!

WATER

1. 75% of American are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half of the world population)

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon caner by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%l, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you thinking about the amount of water you should drink every day?

COKE

1.  In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2.  You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

3.  To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the real thing sit for one hour, then flush clean. the citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5.  To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coke over the the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt. Apply a cloth soaked in Coke to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7.  To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coke into the Baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for sumptuous brown gravy.

8.  To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, andd detergent and run through a regular cycle. The Coke will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean rad haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days!! Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2.  To carry Coke syrup! (CONCENTRATE) the commercial trucks must use hazardous materal place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the truckes for about 20 years!!!!

April 12th-16th

Hard to believe that it is the 4th quarter! I am excited at what is ahead of us, with lots of learning left in the last quarter.

REMINDER: 8th grade only!

     Our service project starts this Wednesday. Please plan on staying after school from 2-3:30pm. I will be providing snacks, if you would like to bring your own snack, please feel free to do so. Looking forward to our awesome service project!!

GRAMMAR:

words that end in -ing for example: eating, drinking

The original verbs in spanish are comer and beber. What do you do to these verbs in spanish in order for them to become -ing verbs?

----you drop the -er/-ir and simple add -iendo

comer becomes comiendo......................beber becomes bebiendo

What if the verb is an -ar verb? for example caminar. You would drop the -ar and add -ando. The verb becomes CAMINANDO.

We will continue to work on this in the next couple of weeks.

Middle School Health: This quarter in health we are learning about the dangers of tobacco and alcohol.

5th grade: Are working on different fairy tales and translating them into spanish. They will be doing mini-plays in the classroom on each of the different fairy tales they have choosen in Spanish!!

4th grade: Currently is in the middle of presenting awesome culture projects on the different regions of Mexico. I am excited to see all the projects that the kids have been working so hard on.

3rd grade: Is currently working on becoming familiar with the vocabulary used to describe a house in spanish. They each designed a dream home and labeled all the rooms in spanish.

2nd grade: Continues to learn fruits, vegetables and different vocabulary as it relates to a table setting.

1st grade: La vaca dice.......moo. They are continuing to work on learning the farm animals in spanish!

K5- Is starting to comprehend and read small spanish stories. It is very exciting to see the progress that your children are making with the spanish language!! HURRAY!!

K4- Is busy working on "SPRING" flowers and learning all the vocabulary that goes along with "SPRING and FLOWERS" in spanish!!
