Weekly Class Letter
March 1, 2010
Dear Families,
Happy March! May the luck of the Irish be with you this fine month. We have a new seating arrangement and a new book order for you today. We have new poems, vocabulary words, writing assignments, and math and art projects to do,too.
Besides those things, we’ll present our Biography TV shows this Tuesday and Wednesday at noon! I hope you can come on the day of your child’s performance. As I mentioned before, I will try to tape the shows, and maybe even put them on my webpage or the school’s website! I’ll see if I can burn a DVD for viewing, too.
Please remember to save your specials’ schedule from this week, because it has the schedule for the week after spring break. Also, you’ll receive your child’s report card after the break. If you have questions, please let me know.
Today, we had a lesson from Police Officer Dodd. He will come to our class to teach safety lessons every Monday afternoon through the month of March. This Thursday afternoon, we will watch the Students vs Teachers Basketball Game, and sometime this week, we’ll fit in a play practice, as well. Thanks for helping your child learn his or her lines that I sent home last week.
In math this week, we’ll practice digital time and read and create graphs. You will notice on tomorrow’s money homework that we’re now including quarters. If your conference is tomorrow and there’s no time for homework, that’s okay.
Speaking of conferences, it’s so nice to get a chance to talk about all the great kids in my class. I’m really enjoying this bunch because they are friendly, polite, and engaged so much of the time. Thanks for being helpful parents.
If you didn’t read my little note on Friday, I explained the District Accountability’s parent survey that you can do on the computer. I’m asking that you please participate in this survey, which is on the district webpage. The password is DAAC. Your input and feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
On Friday, we will not have book check out so that I can return all the leveled books to the leveled library for inventory. I hope you have enough books at home for your child to read during spring break, or you can visit the public library. It is important for your child to read daily to not lose ground.
Another thing your child can do during the break is practice math facts with an activity called, “Math Wheel.” On Friday, I will show the students how to do the math wheel and then send it home, with a letter of explanation, for your child to practice. (Your child can keep the math wheel packet.) We will start this activity after spring break. It will be your child’s extra homework for the month, instead of money and story problems.
